Last week’s announcement about our new Light Whiskey program generated more interest than we anticipated – both domestically and internationally.

Light Whiskey is one of the most versatile and cost-effective tools available to blenders today. Its clean, refined character makes it an ideal component for adding balance, structure, and proof—while allowing the core flavor profile of a blend to remain intact. For brands focused on scaling production, managing input costs, or maintaining consistency across batches, it offers a highly effective solution.
From a regulatory standpoint, Light Whiskey is a distinct TTB classification with several defining characteristics:
• Distilled above 160 proof and below 190 proof
• No grain or mash bill requirements
• Can be produced from any grain mash in any proportion
• Aged in used oak barrels or new uncharred oak containers
• No barrel entry proof limit
• No minimum aging requirement
This flexibility allows Light Whiskey to serve as a highly adaptable blending component—capable of softening more aggressive profiles, helping manage proof, extending supply, and supporting the development of consistent, high-quality whiskey.
At Whiskey House of Kentucky, our mission has always been to provide our partners with the scale, expertise, and tools needed to build exceptional whiskey programs. The addition of Light Whiskey is another meaningful step forward in delivering on that commitment.
